Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday and Friday held several telephone conversations with his counterparts from other countries of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), including with Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on the situation in that republic, Dmitry Peskov, spokesman for the Russian leader, told reporters on Friday.
"Yesterday and today President Putin had a number of telephone conversations with the leaders of the CSTO member countries. He spoke with Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, and Armenian Prime Minister," the Kremlin spokesman said.
Also, he said, Putin "repeatedly spoke by telephone with President Tokayev of Kazakhstan." "They discussed the situation in Kazakhstan and joint actions within the CSTO mandate to fight international terrorism and to ensure order as well as the security of Kazakh citizens," Peskov said.
"Along with this, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu has been reporting to Putin on a continuous basis since the start of the CSTO peacekeeping force operation on the progress of the deployment of peacekeeping forces to Kazakhstan and the implementation of the assigned tasks," the presidential spokesman said.
