Africa will become one of the leaders of a multipolar world, Russian President Vladimir Putin is convinced.

"The states of Africa are constantly increasing their influence and role in world affairs, and they are becoming more and more confident in politics and economics. We are convinced that Africa will become one of the leaders of the emerging new multipolar world order," the Russian head of state said on Monday, speaking at the Russia-Africa parliamentary conference.

He is convinced that there are all the objective prerequisites for this. The Russian president said that Africa is home to about 1.5 billion people, an enormous resource base, and almost a third of the world's mineral resources. And although African countries still account for only 3% of world GDP, the economy of many of them is growing faster than others, Putin said.

He also added that amid the turbulence of world politics and economics African countries are trying to conduct an independent and sovereign foreign and domestic policy, to solve their own, sometimes difficult, problems.
