Russian president Vladimir Putin noted that it is still unknown how the situation in Afghanistan will affect regional and global security.
"The withdrawal of the Americans and their allies from Afghanistan has led to the emergence of a new crisis situation, and it is still not entirely clear how all this will affect regional and global security," the Russian head of state said Thursday during the BRICS online summit.
In his opinion, it is quite fair that the countries of the association (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) pay special attention to this issue.
"Naturally, Russia, like its BRICS partners, has consistently advocated the establishment of long-awaited peace and stability on Afghan land. The people of this country have struggled for many decades and have earned the right to determine for themselves what their state will be," Putin stressed.
"Of course, we are not interested in Afghanistan remaining a threat to surrounding countries, and we are not interested in terrorism and drug trafficking threatening us from the territory of Afghanistan. We are interested in stopping the flow of migration. We are for Afghans so that Afghans could live peacefully and worthily in their homeland," pointed out the president.
The crisis in Afghanistan was caused by irresponsible attempts to introduce foreign values alien to the country, the president added.
"I have said many times that the current crisis in Afghanistan is a direct consequence of irresponsible attempts to impose alien values from outside, the desire to build so-called democratic structures by socio-political engineering, without considering either the historical or national characteristics of other nations. Ignoring traditions that other countries live by," he said.
All this, Putin continued, only turns into destabilization and - in the end - chaos. "After which, the authors of these experiments hurry away, leaving their subjects to fend for themselves. The entire international community has to deal with the consequences," he concluded.
