Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed developments in Afghanistan at a regular meeting with permanent members of the Russian Security Council (SC) on Friday.
"We will continue to discuss with you the situation related to the events in Afghanistan, continue consultations with our partners and exchange information about these contacts of ours. We will talk about the whole range [of issues], including the work on the diplomatic, military, and humanitarian fronts," Putin said.
The meeting was attended by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko, State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin, Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev, Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev, Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, FSB Director Alexander Bortnikov and SVR Director Sergey Naryshkin.
Earlier, Patrushev announced that additional measures to ensure stability in the region would be discussed at the upcoming meeting of the president with the permanent members of the Security Council on the theme of Afghanistan. Patrushev stressed that the situation in Afghanistan is within the field of vision of the Security Council, and the Russian Federation has already intensified contacts through the security councils, security agencies, special services, and military departments with the neighboring countries, especially Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, as well as China, Iran, India, and Pakistan.
