Putin: SCO’s Respect for Sovereignty Resonates in a Changing World

04 July

During an SCO+ format meeting in Astana, Russian President Vladimir Putin emphasized that the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) attracts countries due to its respect for state sovereignty, a quality particularly valued in today's rapidly changing global landscape.

"The growing interest in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization stems primarily from the fact that many countries worldwide share our association's core values and ideals. These include a commitment to pursuing sovereign and independent policies while simultaneously seeking collective solutions to common challenges," Putin stated.

The Russian leader underscored the importance of the SCO's active involvement in multilateral cooperation across various domains, noting its relevance in the current complex international environment characterized by significant political and economic shifts. "We are witnessing the emergence of a truly multipolar world, where an increasing number of nations are prepared to assertively defend their legitimate rights and interests," he observed.

Putin emphasized that the SCO values "the opinions and perspectives of a wide range of partners and respects each state's inalienable right to choose its own development path." He also highlighted the organization's "ongoing efforts to foster an atmosphere of security and trust throughout the Eurasian region."
