Putin to Deliver Keynote Address at Valdai Discussion Club's Annual Plenary Session

02 October

Russian President Vladimir Putin will participate in the plenary session of the XXII annual meeting of the Valdai International Discussion Club, underway in Sochi from September 29 to October 2. This year's session is themed "The Polycentric World: Instructions for Use".

Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov stated that the President's address is expected after 4:00 PM Moscow Time. He indicated that the discussion will center on the emerging new system of international relations.

"[The club's current meeting theme] is 'The Polycentric World: Instructions for Use.' The entire conversation will revolve around this. It's about what this new system is, where it will lead, its advantages and disadvantages, how everyone should operate within it, and how to live in a polycentric or multipolar system," the Kremlin representative noted.

The event has brought together 140 participants from over 40 countries, including experts from the UK, India, Germany, China, Malaysia, Pakistan, and South Africa. Organizers have stated the conference's primary goal is to find optimal solutions for avoiding numerous risks and identifying ways to preserve the stability of individual states and the international system as a whole.

Putin has traditionally met with Valdai participants since the club's founding in 2004. The first conference was held in Veliky Novgorod near Lake Valdai, from which the event derives its name. Since 2014, the club's meetings have been held in Sochi, with the exception of 2020, when the conference took place in Moscow and the head of state participated via video link due to the coronavirus pandemic.
