During his visit to Turkmenistan, Russian President Vladimir Putin will take part in the forum “Peace and Trust: Unity of Purpose for a Sustainable Future” and hold several bilateral meetings.
On December 12, Ashgabat will host a forum dedicated to the International Year of Peace and Trust, the International Day of Neutrality, and the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality. Heads of state and leaders of international organizations are expected to attend. As previously announced by the Kremlin press service, Putin plans to use the forum as an opportunity for a series of bilateral talks with foreign leaders.
In addition to discussions with Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, the Russian leader is set to meet with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and Iraq’s President Abdul Latif Rashid, presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed earlier.
Putin will then take part in several protocol events organized by the host country in honor of the visiting delegations.
The Russian president last visited Turkmenistan in October 2024. That trip was a working visit during which he participated in the forum “Interrelation of Times and Civilizations —The Foundation of Peace and Development,” held to mark the 300th anniversary of Turkmen poet Magtymguly Pyragy. He also held talks with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Pakistan’s then-President Asif Ali Zardari, Turkish parliamentary speaker Numan Kurtulmuş, and had a separate meeting with the national leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the People’s Council Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
About the International Forum
Turkmenistan traditionally marks the anniversary of its neutrality with events highlighting this state policy and its advantages. In 2025, Ashgabat is hosting the International Forum of Peace and Trust.
The International Day of Neutrality was established by a UN General Assembly resolution in 2017, with Turkmenistan playing an active role. It commemorates December 12, 1995, when the UN General Assembly officially recognized Ashgabat’s status of permanent neutrality with the support of all 185 member states. The date is celebrated in Turkmenistan as a national holiday.
Additionally, the United Nations has designated 2025 as the Year of Peace and Trust — an initiative launched at Turkmenistan’s Permanent Mission to the UN with strong support from the republic.
