Putin to Meet with President of Guinea-Bissau in Moscow

26 February

Russian President Vladimir Putin will hold bilateral talks with President of Guinea-Bissau Umaro Sissoco Embaló at the Kremlin. This marks Embaló’s first state visit to Russia.

According to the Kremlin press service, the leaders will discuss prospects for Russia-Bissau cooperation across various fields, as well as key international and regional issues.

Putin and Embaló had previously agreed to continue their dialogue during a phone conversation in January, where they also explored expanding trade, investment, and humanitarian cooperation.

Their last in-person meeting took place on May 9, 2024, in Moscow. During that discussion, Embaló assured Putin that Guinea-Bissau remains a reliable ally for Russia.

Bilateral relations hold significant potential in geological exploration, mineral resources, infrastructure, energy, agriculture, and fisheries.

Russia and Guinea-Bissau also maintain strong humanitarian ties. As of 2024, around 350 Bissau-Guinean students were enrolled in Russian universities, with over 5,000 specialists already graduated. During their May meeting, Putin pledged to increase education quotas for students from the West African nation.
