Moscow supports the expansion of African countries' representation in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) and other UN structures, aiming to rectify the "historical injustice," Russian President Vladimir Putin declared during the plenary session of the second Russia-Africa summit.

"We certainly support the desire of African states to have a more significant role in the United Nations, and we see the active stance taken by the African Union in this regard. In practical terms, we are open to considering proposals that aim to enhance the representation of African structures and individuals within the UN, including as part of the ongoing reform of the Security Council. It is our belief that the time has come to rectify the historical imbalance towards the African continent," stated the Russian president.

The Russian president also acknowledged the increasing influence of African regional organizations, particularly highlighting the role of the African Union as a representative of the collective opinions and aspirations of the entire continent. He emphasized Russia's active support for the proposal to grant the African Union a position in the G20. According to him, this step would be a rightful and fitting decision.

According to Putin, Russia is keen on collaboration with other regional integration associations in Africa. He mentioned having a dedicated meeting with their leadership recently, during which Russia proposed the idea of establishing cooperation between the Eurasian Economic Union and the African Continental Free Trade Area, which was formed under the auspices of the African Union.
