Over 300 children will be able to study at the Rassvet Center for Russian language and culture, which opened in the Syrian province of Latakia, the Russian mission of Rossotrudnichestvo in Syria told reporters.
"In the Syrian Arab Republic, in the city of Jableh, the opening ceremony of the Rassvet Center for the Russian language and culture took place. Within the walls of the created center, up to 300 children of different ages can be trained simultaneously. In addition to learning the Russian language, children will have the opportunity to study the culture, traditions and customs of the peoples of Russia", the office said.
They noted that in the future it is planned to arrange trips to Russia for students of the center to get acquainted with the monuments of culture, participate in various creative activities and communicate with their peers.
"First of all, such an opportunity will be given to those children studying in the Rassvet center , whose childhood was spent in war-torn regions, and whose parents died fighting against terrorist and radical groups, for a long time engaged in illegal activities on the territory of Syria", reported in the representative office.
As stressed in the office, an invaluable contribution to the creation of the Center was made by the representation of Rossotrudnichestvo in Syria, the charity organization Russian humanitarian mission, the Russian center of science and culture in Damascus, as well as representatives of the Russian diaspora in Syria. Thanks to the support of the Ministry of secondary education of the SAR, the administrations of Latakia governorate and the city of Jableh, all the necessary documents for the arrangement and work of the center were prepared in time.
Interest in Russia
"We are very pleased with the opening of the Russian center in the city of Jableh. It's a great contribution to the development of our friendly relations. Syrian children will be able to study the Russian language, Russian culture and history. No doubt it will help them in their adult life. Someone may want to tie their fate with Russia", said the head of Rossotrudnichestvo representative office in Syria Nikolay Sukhov at the opening ceremony of the center.
Director of the Center for the study of the Russian language and culture "Rassvet" Muhammed Marouf, who graduated from the Russian peoples' friendship university, said, in turn, that the idea to create a private educational institution appeared after the increased interest in the Russian language in recent years on the part of Syrians.
"Very high interest, very strong desire of all local residents. Almost every house here has one or two people who have studied in Russia and have a Russian diploma," Marouf stressed. - "The main goal of the center is to strengthen humanitarian ties between Russia and Syria".
Since 2014, the Russian language has been included in the curriculum of Syrian educational schools as an elective subject.
