The second parliamentary elections in Kyrgyzstan are scheduled for December 20 this year, the Central Election Commission of the republic reported TASS.
"Members of the CEC decided on Wednesday to hold the second parliamentary elections on December 20, 2020," a representative of the agency said.
According to him, this decision is caused by the fact that the results of the previous vote were declared invalid. According to preliminary information, 450 million soms (about $5.55 million) will be allocated from the budget for the preparation and holding of voting on December 20.
Elections to the supreme legislative body of Kyrgyzstan took place on October 4 and representatives of 16 political parties took part in them. Only four of them managed to overcome the 7% barrier. The next day, supporters of the losing parties organized rallies in the capital, followed by riots that subsequently led to the resignation of the government led by Kubatbek Boronov and President Sooronbay Jeenbekov.
Amid the events, the CEC declared the election results invalid, as the parties were engaged in mass bribery of voters during the elections.
Currently, the Kyrgyz Parliament, which has 120 seats, includes representatives of six political forces. Sadyr Zhaparov, is appointed Prime Minister and Acting President, proposes to lower the electoral threshold for parties participating in the elections. Members of the current convocation will discuss this issue during an extraordinary session scheduled for October 21.
