On the sidelines of the summit of the Group of Twenty (G20) in Indonesia, Russia will voice a number of initiatives in the food and energy sector, including expansion of gas cooperation with Turkey and organization of supplies of large consignments of grain and fertilizers. This was said in a commentary by Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova issued on Thursday.
"Russia will confirm its readiness to remain a reliable supplier of food products and energy resources to foreign markets on commercial and humanitarian grounds, rejecting, however, any attempts of price and other external pressure. We plan to announce a number of specific initiatives to this end, including expansion of gas cooperation with Turkey and organization of large supplies of grain and fertilizers," the diplomat said.
"We will emphasize the importance of demonopolization in the global economic architecture and building logistics routes, technological clusters and payment systems independent of political turbulence," Zakharova added.
The diplomat also noted that "the Russian Federation will be represented by a delegation headed by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who will take part in the plenary sessions and hold a number of bilateral meetings on the margins of the event".
Constructive approach
According to the foreign ministry spokesperson, Russia "is determined to strengthen the G20's status as the leading multilateral economic forum and to prevent any attempts at artificial politicization of the group's activities for the sake of narrow self-interest." "We welcome the constructive attitude of the Indonesian presidency to promote a unifying agenda under the slogan of post-crisis global economic recovery on the principles of 'together and better,'" she added.
The diplomat also pointed out that the destructive trends currently observed, which significantly reduce the productive potential of the G20, are taking place against the background of the difficult situation in the world economy. "In fact, we are talking about the formation of unprecedented challenges in this area, affecting the stability of commodity markets, supply chains and the financial system. Most of them are the result of gross economic miscalculations, unfair competition and open confrontation of the US and the EU in the international arena," she said.
"We assume that in the current circumstances the emphasis should be made on the use of diplomatic instruments in order to revive the culture of respectful dialogue in the G20 and to create the conditions for its return to effective work in the future," continued the official representative of the Russian diplomatic office. - "We intend to contribute in any way possible to such a development with the support of like-minded partners in BRICS and other emerging market countries."
The diplomat stressed that Moscow expresses hope that "the positive vector announced by Jakarta will be accepted by all delegations in a spirit of solidarity and cooperation and will enable the G20 to make a significant contribution to the multipolar world and democratization of international economic relations. "Particular attention should be paid to the formation of a convincing outcome of the Bali summit on the response to threats in the field of food and energy security," concluded Zakharova.
