A Russian interdepartmental delegation, which arrived in the capital of the Syrian Arab Republic (SAR), handed over 1,600 tons of humanitarian aid to the most needy Syrian citizens on Tuesday, Mikhail Mizintsev, head of the Russian-Syrian Interagency Coordination Staff (ICS) for refugee return, said during the humanitarian cargo handover ceremony.
"A Russian interdepartmental delegation arrived in Syria on a humanitarian visit, within the framework of which humanitarian aid was delivered for the most needy Syrian citizens," he said.
Mizintsev specified that the Russian ISC prepared more than 1.6 thousand tons of humanitarian aid, including 370 tons of food, about 40 tons of clothes and bedding, as well as more than 5 thousand school kits for educational institutions, as well as 16 electric generators for delivery to hospitals. "Russia provides assistance to Syria in all directions to improve the life of the Syrian people and supports efforts to rebuild the state," said Mizintsev.
In turn, Hussain Makhluf, Minister of Municipal Administration and Ecology of the SAR, who participated in the ceremony, expressed his deep gratitude to the Russian people for their long-standing friendship, equal and mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields, based on mutual respect.
Deputy Head of the Administrative Directorate of the President of the Russian Federation Olga Lyakina and Husein Makhluf signed a protocol confirming the transfer of Russian humanitarian aid to the Syrian Arab Republic.
According to the head of the ICS, during the entire operation against terrorists in Syria (since September 30, 2015), the Russian side conducted more than 3 thousand humanitarian actions, during which about 5.3 thousand tons of food and medicines were distributed to the Syrian population. Russian doctors provided medical assistance to more than 132,000 residents of the country, and sappers cleared almost 6,000 hectares of territory, 273 km of roads, more than 12 km of railroad tracks and more than 3,000 buildings and structures of explosive ordnance. Over 43,600 explosive objects were found and deactivated.
