Russian airbase in Kyrgyzstan was switched to the enhanced mode to prevent provocations

Due to the situation in the republic, the Russian airbase Kant in Kyrgyzstan was transferred to the regime of strengthening counteraction to terrorism. The press service of the Central Military District informed the journalists about that.


"In order to prevent any provocations related to the deteriorating situation in the Kyrgyz Republic, the Russian 999th Air Base Kant has introduced a regime of strengthening counterterrorism. All planned combat training and daily life activities <...> are conducted in full," the press service said.


They specified that now the base units are preparing for the final inspection for the 2020 academic year, which in accordance with the plan will be conducted by the Central Military District Commission.


The Russian aviation base Kant is part of the Collective Rapid Deployment Forces and is involved in ensuring the security of airspace of the states of the Collective Security Treaty Organization. The base is equipped with Su-25 attack aircraft and Mi-8 helicopters.


On the night of Tuesday after the parliamentary elections in Kyrgyzstan on October 4, representatives of the parties that did not make it to the highest legislative body, staged mass riots in Bishkek and seized the parliament buildings where the administration of the head of state, the government, the capital's mayor's office and the Prosecutor General's Office are also located. Protesters released former president Almazbek Atambayev, former prime minister Sapar Isakov and a number of other politicians from the detention facility.
