Russian Ambassador Blames US Policies for Middle East Crisis

30 September

The current situation in the Middle East is the result of failed US policies in the region, said Russian Ambassador to Israel Anatoly Viktorov during an interview with the Russia-24 television channel.

“I would like to draw attention to the extremely malicious and unconstructive role of the United States in this region. They bear a significant, if not primary, responsibility for the current events. This is all a consequence of the US's failed policies here over many years, policies that monopolized and usurped the political processes, driven solely by their interest in maintaining hegemony and influence in the region, and propping up their faltering dollar, which is under tremendous pressure,” emphasized Viktorov.

He also pointed to the double standard in US actions. “On the one hand, they claim they wish to prevent a large-scale war in the Middle East, but on the other, they react positively to these acts of score-settling, such as the assassination of [Hassan] Nasrallah, the leader of Hezbollah,” he added.

On September 28, the Israeli Defense Forces reported that Nasrallah was killed in a September 27 airstrike by the Israeli Air Force in Beirut. The operation was code-named “New Order.” Shortly afterward, the Shia movement officially confirmed the death of its leader.
