Russian and Egyptian Foreign Ministers Discuss the Need for an Early Ceasefire in Gaza

10 June

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met on the margins of the BRICS Foreign Ministers' meeting to discuss the escalating situation in the Gaza Strip. They underscored the urgency of intensifying international efforts to achieve an early ceasefire.

"In the course of the conversation, the sides discussed topical aspects of the Middle East agenda with a focus on the ongoing escalation in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict zone. The necessity of intensifying international efforts in the interests of the earliest possible ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and ensuring sustainable humanitarian access in order to provide the necessary assistance to the population of the Palestinian enclave was emphasized," stated the Russian Foreign Ministry.

Additionally, the ministers discussed the development of traditionally friendly Russian-Egyptian relations, including the maintenance of political dialogue and the expansion of trade, economic, and humanitarian ties.

The BRICS Foreign Ministers' meeting, chaired by Lavrov, will commence in Nizhny Novgorod on June 10. This two-day meeting will include representatives from the G10 states and BRICS friends countries, marking the first such meeting since the BRICS expansion in 2023.
