Russian and Egyptian Foreign Ministers Express Concern Over Middle East Situation

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his Egyptian counterpart Badr Abdelatty voiced concern during a phone call about the deteriorating situation in the Middle East amid tensions around Iran, calling for a swift end to the conflict, according to the Russian MFA.


"The ministers expressed deep concern about the dangerous escalation in the Middle East triggered by unprovoked US and Israeli aggression against Iran," the ministry said. "They urged an immediate ceasefire to prevent further civilian casualties and damage to infrastructure."


The parties also highlighted the need to urgently resume political and diplomatic efforts for lasting stability and security in the region.


"The ministers agreed to maintain close contacts and coordination at the UN and other international venues," the statement continued. "The conversation also covered advancing Russian-Egyptian cooperation, including plans for bilateral events."


The Egyptian side initiated the call.
