The Russian Embassy in Sudan is very attentive to the safety of Russians and the Russian diplomatic mission in the light of the difficult domestic political situation in Sudan and the constant demonstrations.
"The situation for the diplomatic mission is relatively calm. However, the continuing difficult internal political situation and constant demonstrations continue to draw our attention to the safety of Russian citizens, the embassy and its staff," the Russian embassy in Sudan told TASS.
For over three months now, there has been unrest in Sudan caused by the decision of the army commander-in-chief, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, to declare a state of emergency in the country and dissolve the government and the governing Sovereign Council headed by him. Despite his promises to "protect the transition period" and organize elections in mid-2023, protesters demand the immediate removal of the army from governing the country. Mediation efforts have not bridged the divide between Sudan's political parties. In the midst of the crisis, Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok resigned.
