Russian embassy reports that security of Russians in Mali is not threatened

The situation in Mali's capital Bamako remains calm after the detention of interim President Bah Ndaw and interim Prime Minister Moctar Ouane in Mali, the Embassy of the Russian Federation told TASS on Tuesday. 


The diplomatic mission pointed out that the information about the detention of the president and the prime minister of the country by the local military in the evening of May 24 was true. "The embassy has no verified information about the reasons for such a step," the embassy said. - "The situation in and around the capital of Mali remains calm, stores and markets are open, public transport works in the city and the airport is functioning".

 



The embassy also said that nothing is threatening the safety and lives of Russian citizens at the moment.


In addition, the diplomatic mission reported that the protection of the Russian Embassy is provided by police units of Mali.


Earlier, the Malian newspaper Journal du Mali reported that the head of state and the prime minister were taken under convoy on Monday evening to the army base in Kati where they are staying.
