18 December 2023

The task force from the Russian Emergencies Ministry, responsible for evacuating Russians from the Gaza Strip, has concluded its operations in Egypt. The decision to withdraw the task force was announced by the head of the Russian Emergencies Ministry, Alexander Kurenkov.

"In Cairo, we are preparing to send the final group of citizens - another 73 people, including 45 children. Therefore, Russian rescuers have successfully evacuated 1,124 people from the Palestinian-Israeli conflict zone. It can now be affirmed that all requests for assistance in evacuation received through the Foreign Ministry have been fulfilled. Consequently, the President of the Russian Federation has made the decision to withdraw the task force of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations from the territory of Egypt," the Minister stated during an operational conference call.

Kurenkov briefed the representatives of the task force, who had been operating in Egypt since November 3. Collaborating with officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the team met citizens and their family members at the Rafah checkpoint, facilitated customs procedures, and escorted them to Cairo. They also prepared the individuals for transportation to Moscow via Russian Emergencies Ministry airplanes. Along the entire route, EMERCOM doctors and psychologists provided support to the people. Simultaneously, an interdepartmental operational headquarters was set up at Domodedovo airport.

The Minister underscored the significance of humanitarian aid to the residents of the Gaza Strip. In total, the Russian Emergencies Ministry conducted 15 special flights, delivering 350 tons of humanitarian cargo. "I want to express gratitude to all the specialists involved in this work for their dedication, willingness to come to the rescue, and efficiency in challenging conditions. I, along with representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, request clarification on the further work order and preparation for the task force's departure. Thank you, and we look forward to your return home," emphasized the head of the Russian Emergencies Ministry.
