Russian Foreign Ministry: Israeli Strike on Doha Will Affect Security of Entire Middle East

16 September

The Israeli strike on Doha will not only impact the situation in the Gaza Strip but also affect the security of the entire Middle East region, said Evgeny Ustinov, head of the Human Rights and Humanitarian Issues Unit at Russia’s Permanent Mission to the UN in Geneva.

“It is clear that Israel’s raid will have very serious consequences both for the situation in Gaza and for the security of the broader Middle East region,” he said during an emergency session of the UN Human Rights Council following Israel’s strikes on Qatar.

Ustinov emphasized that Russia resolutely condemns the Israeli attack on a residential complex in Doha on September 9, which targeted high-ranking members of the Palestinian Hamas leadership. He noted that many more innocent people could have suffered as a result of this “massive airstrike in the middle of a workday.”

“We fully share the UN Secretary-General’s assessment of the inadmissibility of Israel’s attacks on Qatar, which constitute an infringement on the territorial integrity of an independent state,” Ustinov added.
