The evacuation of the citizens of Russia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan from Afghanistan was successfully held with the assistance of the Taliban (a terrorist organization banned in Russia) and the United States, the Russian foreign ministry said in a statement on Thursday.
"Despite the disorganization of the Kabul airport, the event to prepare and dispatch the specified outbound flights was successfully carried out with the assistance of representatives of the Taliban movement, as well as the United States, who continue to regulate the airspace of Afghanistan," the diplomatic office pointed out.
The foreign ministry notes that on August 25-26, the Russian Defense Ministry carried out evacuation flights from Afghanistan for citizens of Russia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, who applied to the Russian embassy in Kabul for assistance in returning to their countries of origin. The foreign ministry stressed that the matter does not concern evacuation but "assistance in the return home of these citizens who find themselves in difficult conditions due to a sharp change in the military and political situation in Afghanistan".
Earlier on Wednesday, Dmitry Zhirnov, Russian ambassador to Afghanistan, said that more than 360 Afghans with Russian citizenship were evacuated from Kabul by Russian Defense Ministry aircraft. The evacuation of more than 500 citizens of Russia, CSTO countries (Belarus, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan), Uzbekistan and Ukraine from Afghanistan was carried out by the Russian Defense Ministry on instructions from Russian President Vladimir Putin.
