Mikhail Bogdanov, Russian Presidential Special Representative for the Middle East and Africa and Deputy Foreign Minister, expressed gratitude to Syrian ambassador to Moscow Riyad Haddad for Damascus' principled position to support Russia's actions in Ukraine.
"Appreciation was expressed from the Russian side for Syria's firm and principled position in support of the Russian Federation's actions to protect the peaceful population of Donbass," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement released on Friday.
The sides also exchanged views on the development of the situation in and around Syria.
"Special attention was paid to the issues of further building up multidimensional Russian-Syrian cooperation in the interests of the post-crisis reconstruction of the SAR," Smolensk Square added.
The meeting was held at the request of a Syrian diplomat.
