The terrorist organization Jabhat al-Nusra (banned in Russia) is preparing to carry out another provocation in Syria, using poisonous substances against civilians. This was stated in a commentary by Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova released on Friday.

"Information has been received from a reliable source that the terrorist group Jabhat al-Nusra operating in the territory of Syria is preparing to carry out another provocation with the use of poisonous substances according to a well-established scenario with the participation of pseudo-humanitarians from the White Helmets. It is assumed that the chemicals they are currently accumulating in the Idlib de-escalation zone in the north of the country will be used against civilians," the diplomat said.

According to her, it is well known that "the terrorist formations operating in Syria and their accomplices, at the instigation of their foreign handlers, resort to the tactics of staged chemical attacks. "Responsibility for these provocations, as part of propaganda campaigns promoted afterwards, is invariably attributed to the Syrian government," she added.

"On the eve of an important stage in the life of the Syrian state - the Syrian presidential elections on May 26 - the threat of such dirty methods (staged chemical attacks - TASS) is growing. In this regard, we hope that the disclosure of the aforementioned information will probably contribute to the disruption of these criminal plans and prevent the deaths of innocent people," Zakharova stressed.
