Russian Security Council Secretary Sergey Shoigu visited Afghanistan on Monday, where he held meetings with the country's top leadership. Over the course of four rounds of discussions, he addressed key issues related to the economy, transportation, and security with Afghan deputy prime ministers and ministers, according to a TASS correspondent.
“Since the Afghan government came to power, much has become clearer and more defined. Today, we had several meetings with deputy prime ministers and ministers, discussing our cooperation across various sectors, including the economy, transportation, and security,” Shoigu said during a press briefing.
The Russian delegation, which included Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Overchuk, met with Afghan Deputy Prime Ministers Mohammad Abdul Kabir and Abdul Ghani Baradar, Defense Minister Mohammad Yaqub, and Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani.
Particular emphasis was placed on ensuring both economic and physical security for Russian businesses operating in Afghanistan.
“Security for economic operators, companies, and individuals was given special attention. Without security, no one, no matter how courageous, will bring people here. The outcomes are encouraging. Our colleagues assured us that they will guarantee a high level of security. This demonstrates their serious and comprehensive approach, understanding that without safety, no one will undertake either small or large projects in this country,” Shoigu noted.
