Shoigu Discusses Security Cooperation with His Iranian Counterpart

Secretary of the Russian Security Council Sergei Shoigu held a telephone conversation with Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Ali Ahmadian, as reported by the press service of the Russian Security Council.

 

"Prospects for further cooperation between Russia and Iran in the field of security were discussed in detail," the statement said.

 

This marks the first conversation between Shoigu and Ahmadian in their current roles, although they had previously interacted when Shoigu was the Defense Minister. According to the Iranian state TV channel IRIB, during the call, the Secretary of the Russian Security Council also expressed condolences to his Iranian counterpart over the death of Iran's President Ebrahim Raisi and his entourage in a helicopter crash. Shoigu emphasized that Moscow and Tehran will continue their high-level cooperation in various fields.

 

Following the crash, the Secretary of the Russian Security Council sent a telegram to Ahmadian, expressing his condolences and reiterating his readiness to assist in the investigation.
