Africa's admiration and appreciation for Russia's historical support will continue to bolster Russia's authority in the region, Sule Hassan, the head of the peace and security department of the Sahara-Sahelian Community of States, said in an interview with TASS.
"Yes, Africa loves Russia, it has always been so and it will be so. No matter what America does, that won't change. And now, as Russia actively develops relations with the Sahel countries, the country's credibility will only strengthen," Hassan affirmed.
According to Hassan, the sight of Africans waving Russian flags during protests in countries like the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Niger, Senegal, and Chad symbolizes the continent's hope for Russia's support and assistance. "We know that it [Russia] has helped us before in a difficult situation, so Africans hope for help this time," he explained. He added that this demonstration of solidarity also indicates that Russia is not isolated; the entire African continent stands behind it.
Furthermore, Hassan highlighted the historical ties between Africa and Russia, including the education of many African students in the USSR and their involvement in the Komsomol youth movement. These connections continue to foster warm feelings and positive sentiments towards Russia among Africans.
