The Kazakhstani authorities have learned their lessons after the January riots, and the country will quickly recover, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said on Tuesday, speaking at an online summit of Central Asian and Chinese heads of state.
"In the first days of January, Kazakhstan faced aggression by terrorists and militants unprecedented in its audacity and cruelty. Kazakhstanis gratefully accepted the support of China and the fraternal countries of Central Asia. As a state and as a nation, we have learned the necessary lessons from these tragic events and will definitely recover quickly," Tokayev said.
He noted that the country's authorities are now vigorously working to reform and reform public administration, the national security system and economic policy. "Thus, we have begun to build a new Kazakhstan," the head of state stressed.
Kazakhstan has begun work to bring order to the customs, imports into the republic will not suffer.
"We have begun decisive work to bring order to the customs border, including the fight against unscrupulous entrepreneurs, who introduced illegal schemes and put all sorts of barriers to business. I am sure that the results of the fight against such unlawful actions are not far off. I would like to state that imports into Kazakhstan and transit to third countries will not suffer in any way. I gave a corresponding instruction to the government and law enforcement bodies," Tokayev said.
He noted that Kazakhstan will continue to create infrastructure in the border areas, including wholesale and distribution and logistics centers. "All these measures are already having a favorable effect on the growth of intra-regional trade. By the way, Kazakhstan's trade turnover with Central Asian countries increased by almost 40% last year alone. I think we need to use the huge opportunities of the format of cooperation between Central Asia and China," the president of Kazakhstan stressed.

By January 7 the situation stabilized, the state of emergency was lifted all over the country on January 19. According to authorities, 225 people were killed and more than 4,500 injured.
The summit is attended by Chinese President Xi Jinping and the presidents of Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan.
