Israel has carried out an attack against the residents of Gaza aimed at genocide, causing massive destruction in Palestinian territories, according to Francesca Albanese, the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the occupied Palestinian territories.
"For nearly a year, the genocidal attack launched by Israel against Gaza has destroyed numerous families, wiped out entire neighborhoods, and decimated vital infrastructure," Albanese stated during a press conference held by the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, which was streamed on the organization's website.
She noted that the scale of this "devastating operation" has led the international community to describe the situation in Gaza as genocide, including medical and cultural genocide.
Albanese highlighted that more than 40,000 civilians have been killed during Israel's operation, with 95,000 others injured. She also stressed that the psychological impact on Gaza's population will "affect entire generations," while Western countries have remained silent on the matter.
Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov remarked that the bloodshed in the Palestinian enclave is a major international issue that must not be overlooked by the UN Security Council.
