Russia, together with the vast majority of countries worldwide, recognized the legitimate rights of Palestinians to their own state long before the present tragedy. This was stated by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin while speaking at a high-level international conference on Middle East peace held at the UN headquarters in New York.
“I would like to remind you that Russia, along with the overwhelming majority of countries in the world—149 states—has long recognized the legitimate rights of Palestinians to return and self-determination, their just aspiration for their own state. We did this without waiting for the current human tragedy and the monstrous catastrophe that has claimed the lives of at least 65,000 Palestinians,” he said.
