Zakharova: Gaza Operation Shows Israel’s Unwillingness to Return to Talks

18 September

The military operation in the Gaza Strip reflects Israel’s unwillingness to return to the negotiating table, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.

“Alongside the recent strike on Doha, this new escalation in Gaza may indicate Israel’s intention to resolve the Gaza issue by force. This shows a clear lack of intention to resume negotiations, which will lead to even more civilian casualties,” she noted.

Zakharova explained that Moscow views these decisions by Israel’s leadership in the context of its policy to escalate and intensify the military operation in Gaza. “The consequences of such a step, which causes serious concern, are obvious. It will result in more civilian deaths and further worsen an already catastrophic humanitarian situation,” she said.

She stressed that Russia reiterates its consistent position on the urgent need for all parties involved to intensify efforts to achieve a swift ceasefire in Gaza, secure the release of captives, and ensure unhindered humanitarian access to those in need. “We firmly believe there is no alternative to resolving the Palestinian issue based on the well-known international legal framework,” Zakharova concluded.
