Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova drew attention to Washington's lack of response to human rights violations in Kabul and to Afghan citizens' requests for help to evacuate the country's capital's airport.
"What is the human rights situation in Kabul, according to the White House, have you not heard? I mean, they usually stamp out statements on individual cases around the clock without a lunch break. They call for an end to the suffering, take urgent action [against] those responsible for the lawlessness, threaten sanctions, cite "media and social media data," she wrote Monday in her Telegram channel.
"There seems to be live reporting from the Kabul airport - Afghans storming planes and asking Washington, which for so many years has assured its alliance, not for help, but for salvation. And silence. Is the printer broken or are the `responsible ones' being looked for?" pointed out the diplomat.
Earlier, the media reported eyewitness footage from the airport in Kabul, which shows hundreds of people breaking through the barriers and trying to climb the boarding ramps of planes to fly out of Afghanistan. Automatic weapons fire can be heard in the background.
A mass evacuation of Western citizens is currently taking place from Kabul airport. According to sources in Brussels, the air harbor is the last major facility in Afghanistan remaining under the control of NATO forces, with US, British and Turkish military forces providing security.
