Russia is alarmed by increasing reports of Israel violating the ceasefire agreements on the border with Lebanon, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated at a briefing.
“Russia maintains constant contact with both the Israeli leadership and the authorities and political forces of Lebanon. We are, of course, extremely alarmed that we are increasingly receiving reports from there about Israel's violations of the ceasefire agreements that entered into force in November 2024,” Zakharova said.
“In this connection, we are conveying to all involved parties our principled position on the need to avoid steps that could lead to an escalation of violence and a new round of armed conflict,” she emphasized.
The diplomat assured that Russia, in coordination with its regional and international partners, will continue its efforts “in the interests of achieving a sustainable stabilization of the situation around Lebanon and in the Middle East as a whole.”
Simultaneously, Zakharova refrained from commenting on reports in Lebanese media that the Russian foreign ministry had allegedly warned Lebanon of a possible attack by Israel. “I do not consider it necessary to comment on the vast amount of speculation on this matter,” she stated.
