Developments around Ukraine are restoring the balance in the world that was lost after the collapse of the Soviet Union, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said on Friday during a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
"What is happening now is the correction of history and the restoration of the balance in the world that was lost after the collapse of the Soviet Union. The West's hysteria is designed to keep history on a false path to chaos," the Syrian leader was quoted by his office as saying.
According to al-Assad, Moscow has every right to oppose NATO expansion plans. "Syria supports Russia, based on its conviction in the correctness of its position, because Russia has the right to oppose NATO expansion, which has become a global threat to the world and has become a tool for Western countries to implement irresponsible policies aimed at undermining global stability," the Syrian president said.
The West is responsible for the bloodshed by supporting terrorist groups in Syria and Nazis in Ukraine, al-Assad said. "Western countries are responsible for the chaos and bloodshed provoked by their policies aimed at controlling the peoples. These countries use dirty methods in supporting terrorists in Syria and Nazis in Ukraine and other parts of the world," he said.
According to al-Assad, at present "Russia is defending not only itself, but also [the entire] world and the principles of justice and humanism:. In his view, "Russia will teach the whole world a lesson that it is not only military power that gives greatness to powers, but also respect for the law and moral and humanistic foundations".
