During their meeting in Moscow, the CIS foreign ministers adopted a statement outlining principles for cooperation on ensuring security in Eurasia, highlighting the importance of maintaining the international legal system in the region. This was reported by the CIS Executive Committee's press office to TASS.
The statement emphasized that CIS countries recognize the importance of preserving and protecting the international legal framework, based on the UN Charter, as essential for stability in Eurasia. It also condemned the imposition of rules, standards, and norms in international relations that are developed without the equal participation of all interested states, and called for a stronger role for the CIS in these processes.
The document also calls for uniting the international community in finding collective responses to global and regional security challenges, advocating for political and diplomatic measures to reduce the potential for conflict by addressing the fundamental causes of inter-state disputes.
Additionally, the CIS Executive Committee noted that member states support adapting Eurasian cooperation frameworks in security, economy, culture, and other areas to the realities of a multipolar world. The statement also underlines the Commonwealth’s readiness to contribute to the creation of a framework for equal and indivisible security across Eurasia, achieving long-term stabilization of the military-political situation, and preventing future regional conflicts.
The foreign ministers strongly condemned any attempts at coercion, particularly those aimed at undermining integration and equitable cooperation in Eurasia. They also called for balancing interests and seeking compromises to prevent conflicts and maintain stability in the region. The ministers advocated for greater collaboration among Eurasian integration organizations, including the CIS, EAEU, SCO, ASEAN, the Asia Cooperation Dialogue, and the Gulf Cooperation Council. They stressed the need to depoliticize the fight against terrorism and the importance of upholding the international legal system governing drug control.
This meeting of the CIS Foreign Ministers took place ahead of the Commonwealth’s upcoming summit of leaders.
