Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Wednesday discussed the situation in Syria and the task of providing humanitarian aid to the citizens in need in the republic with the foreign ministers of Turkey and Iran, Mevlut Cavusoglu and Hossein Amir Abdollahian. The Russian MFA report on the results of the ministerial meeting in the Astana format on the margins of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly reads.

"Particular attention was paid to the tasks of comprehensive international humanitarian assistance to all Syrians in need without discrimination and preconditions, including within the framework of the implementation of the UN Security Council Resolution 2642, which includes in addition to the cross-border supply to Idlib, the implementation of projects for the early restoration of civil infrastructure and ensuring sustainable domestic access from Damascus to all areas of the country," the ministry said.

The Russian MFA noted that the ministers discussed the situation in Syria "with a focus on the need to establish lasting stabilization "on the ground," achieving peace and security on the basis of restoring sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity."

Following the trilateral meeting, the Astana troika foreign ministers also held consultations with UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen, where they discussed advancing the political process in Syria in accordance with the UN Security Council Resolution 2254. "The Constitutional Committee, which is an indispensable platform for direct inter-Syrian dialogue on the key issues of their country's future, has an important role to play in this process," the ministry stressed.
