Joseph Aoun Sworn In as Lebanon's 14th President

09 January

Lebanese Army Commander General Joseph Aoun has been sworn in as the 14th President of Lebanon, following a ceremony before the country’s parliament. His presidency marks a significant milestone since Lebanon gained independence in 1943.

In his inaugural speech, Aoun acknowledged the severe crisis Lebanon is facing and stressed the need for a shift in governance methods. “Together with the future government, we will draft a law to ensure the independence of the judiciary,” he stated.

The newly elected president also pledged to develop “a new defense doctrine for Lebanon to protect the country from Israeli aggression.”
