The United States is working to establish a new framework for relations in the Middle East, one that relies not only on Israel but also on key regional monarchies. This is the view of Konstantin Kosachev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Federation Council, expressed in a column for TASS reflecting on the recent Iran-Israel conflict.
“President Trump’s goals appear to go well beyond addressing the Iranian nuclear issue,” Kosachev wrote. “It’s clear that his aim is not an idealistic vision of Israel triumphing over all its enemies, but rather ensuring Washington plays a central role in shaping a new system of relations in the Middle East—one that is anchored not only in Israel, but also in influential monarchies across the region.”
According to Kosachev, it is no coincidence that Qatar played a central role as a mediator in the conflict.
“This, I believe, is what US Envoy Steve Witkoff was alluding to recently when he described the expansion of the Abraham Accords as one of the president’s key goals. He also teased upcoming announcements about countries joining the accords and about normalization with states ‘people might not even expect,’” Kosachev noted.
