Lavrentiev says Russia demands Israel to stop airstrikes on Syria

23 November 2022

Russia is categorically against Israeli airstrikes on the territory of Syria and demands to stop them. Russian Presidential Special Representative for Syria Alexander Lavrentiev said this on Wednesday following the 19th international meeting on Syria in the Astana format.

"As for the Israeli airstrikes, we are categorically against such actions by the Israelis, even though they still say it is their legal right. But we see that people are killed, not only infrastructure and weapons are destroyed, and all this happens on the territory of a sovereign state. Such actions, of course, are illegal and do not comply with any international norms and laws. We not only call but demand from Israel to stop these air strikes and we will continue this work," he said.

Lavrentiev expressed regret that Israel still does not consider Russia's opinion on the matter. "I believe that this position on the part of the Israeli government requires adjustment," he stressed.
