Russia firmly believes in the necessity of safeguarding the interests of developing nations, which encompasses African states, within the framework of the United Nations Security Council. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov underlined this viewpoint in an article penned for the South African magazine Ubuntu.
"Russia has consistently advocated for bolstering the African continent's standing within the multipolar global order. We remain committed to aiding our African partners in their pursuit of assuming a more pronounced role in addressing critical contemporary challenges," - emphasized Lavrov. - "This commitment extends to the ongoing reform efforts within the United Nations Security Council. We firmly believe that this process must prioritize the rightful interests of developing nations, Africa included, above all else."
The United Nations Security Council comprises 15 members, consisting of 5 permanent members and 10 non-permanent members. The five permanent members are Russia, the United Kingdom, China, the United States and France.
