Russia remains deeply committed to its ties with the Arab world and is moving forward with plans to host a high-level Russia–Arab League summit, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told Al Arabiya.
"We maintain close relations with all Arab countries and their representative bodies," the minister noted. "Specifically with the Arab League, we have already held half a dozen ministerial-level meetings. We also plan to hold a Russia–Arab League summit." Lavrov explained that this partnership is far more than a mere formality. "With the Arab world, we have built a specific format of relations. It is not just some procedure. Every meeting at the ministerial, deputy ministerial, expert, and special representative levels serves as a useful tool for a candid exchange of assessments and the development of joint approaches — not only to regional issues but also to global problems discussed at the UN, where we have also established close coordination. We value this."
Lavrov also highlighted the robust relationship Russia has developed with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). "These relations are also structured into annual events at the level of foreign ministers. We adhere to this schedule. Saudi Arabia is a leader of the Arab world, the country that guards the Two Holy Mosques, and the author of the Arab Peace Initiative for settling the most complex and long-standing crisis — the Palestinian problem", he added.
