Lavrov: Russia-Africa Relations Set a Model for UN and G20

11 November

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has hailed Russia-Africa relations as a model for the United Nations and the Group of Twenty (G20) nations. He made these remarks while closing the first ministerial conference of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum.

“I am convinced that the tone evident in all the speeches—the desire to reach agreements that reflect an honest balance of interests—serves as a valuable example for other organizations,” Lavrov stated. “This includes the G20 and the United Nations, where our Western colleagues often resist working in good faith, instead seeking to impose their will on others, including through a privatized UN secretariat where the West enjoys disproportionate representation, especially in senior policymaking positions.”

Lavrov expressed gratitude to African colleagues who acknowledged the Soviet Union's role in the decolonization process. He affirmed Russia's commitment to continuing its work in the spirit of the first two Russia-Africa summits. “This same spirit will guide our preparations for the third summit and the organization of our ministerial conference within the partnership framework,” he concluded.

The inaugural Russia-Africa Partnership Forum ministerial conference was held in a federal territory Sirius. Approximately 1,500 delegates participated, including 45 ministers from the African continent.
