22 July 2022

Russian side has consistently advocated the strengthening of Africa's position in a multipolar world order architecture, which should be based on the principles of the UN Charter and take into account the cultural and civilizational diversity of the world. This was stated in an article by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov for the African media, published on Friday on the website of the Russian MFA on the eve of his visit to the continent.

According to the minister's assessment, African states are now "playing an increasingly important role" in global politics and economics, and are also "actively participating in addressing key issues of our time." "Their solidarity voice in world affairs sounds more and more harmonious," Lavrov stressed. - "Russia consistently advocates the strengthening of Africa's position in the multipolar world order architecture, which should be based on the principles of the UN Charter and take into account the cultural and civilizational diversity of the world".

The Russian diplomat noted that in this context Moscow welcomes the successful development of integration structures such as the African Union, the East African Community, the Southern African Development Community, the Economic Community of Central African States, the Economic Community of West African Countries and the Intergovernmental Organization for Development. "We consider the launch of the African Continental Free Trade Area as an important step towards genuine economic independence of the continent, its final freedom from any form of discrimination and coercion," he said.
