The National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland (CNSP), the governing body of Niger's rebels, has declared that a foreign state is making preparations for aggression against the African nation, as reported by Al Arabiya TV.
"A foreign state is preparing to attack our territory," stated the CNSP, without disclosing the specific country involved. The rebel group mentioned that "they are making preparations in anticipation of a potential foreign military intervention."
The council further underlined that "it will persist in its actions despite the conclusion of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) ultimatum."
During a summit in Abuja on July 30, ECOWAS member states condemned the coup in Niger and issued a one-week ultimatum to the rebels, demanding the restoration of constitutional order. The regional organization warned of potential actions, including the use of force, if the demands were not met.
