Number of deaths caused by the earthquake in the west of Turkey increased up to 79

The number of victims of the earthquake in Izmir province in the west of Turkey has increased to 79, the Department of Emergency Situations of Turkey reported on Monday.


"79 of our citizens were killed. 743 people out of 962 wounded were discharged, treatment of 219 people is ongoing," the department said.

 

The earthquake with magnitude 6.7 has been registered in the sea 19 km to the north-west from Samos island, it was felt in Athens and Istanbul. The earth shocks have caused at least 20 houses to collapse in Izmir, there are also destructions in the Greek city of Neon-Karlovassi. Turkish Minister of Environment and Urban Development Murat Kurum said the Turkish authorities started paying material aid to the victims on Sunday.
