Putin called his meeting with Erdogan substantive

29 September 2021

Russian president Vladimir Putin praised the results of the talks with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Sochi.

"Thank you for the visit. It was very useful and informative. We will be in touch," he said as he saw the guest off.

Erdogan also called the talks productive.

The two leaders discussed both bilateral relations and regional problems - the situation in Syria, Libya, Afghanistan and Transcaucasia.

Putin noted that negotiations between Moscow and Ankara are sometimes difficult, but the sides have learned to find compromises, so the final result remains positive.

The construction of the Akkuyu NPP, Turkey's first nuclear power plant, was one of the topics raised by the presidents. According to Erdogan, its first unit is expected to open as early as next year. The construction of the facility started in April 2018, and Rosatom is participating in it.

The meeting lasted about three hours. For Putin, it was the first public face-to-face meeting after the quarantine. The Russian president said he had spent an entire day with an infected person, but had not got infected. Therefore, he recommended his Turkish counterpart choose Sputnik V if he decides to be vaccinated again. In response, Erdogan noted that he had already been revaccinated.
