Putin holds talks with President of Senegal in Sochi

Russian President Vladimir Putin has begun talks with his counterpart from Senegal, Chairman of the African Union (AU) Macky Sall. The meeting, which takes place on Friday in Sochi, is also attended by Moussa Faki Mahamat, Chairman of the African Union Commission.


Dmitry Peskov, a spokesman for the Russian leader, noted that the agenda of the conversation is "very, very important and thorough." In particular, according to him, the parties will discuss a number of international issues, including "the deep concern of the African continent about the already emerging global food crisis", the problem of the lack of fertilizers and economic cooperation.

 

 

In addition, Russian-African relations will be discussed. As reported by the Kremlin's press service, the talks are planned to focus on Russia's interaction with the African Union, including the expansion of political dialogue, economic and humanitarian cooperation with countries of the continent. The presidents are expected to discuss the development of Russian-Senegalese cooperation.


The African Union includes 55 countries of the continent, it is the largest and most influential pan-African organization. The AU headquarters is located in the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa. The post of the head of the Union is reserved for the heads of state and government of Africa, who hold it on a rotating basis for one year.
