Russian President Vladimir Putin has identified the establishment of a Palestinian state as a fundamental requirement for resolving the conflict in the Gaza Strip. He confirmed Russia's readiness to participate in the settlement plan presented by US leader Donald Trump.
"From the very beginning, when I spoke at the Valdai Club, I stated that we support the US initiative, President [Donald] Trump's initiative, on this track. However, one of the key issues is the creation of a Palestinian state," Putin told journalists following his visit to Tajikistan.
The Russian president emphasized that the level of trust between Russia and Arab nations, particularly with Palestine, is exceptionally high. He stated that the creation of a Palestinian state is a matter for the future.
"As I understand it—I haven't yet had a chance to study all these proposals in detail—they include matters related to the transfer of power in the enclave to the Palestinian administration after a certain period, its formation, issues concerning security guarantees, and the creation of a local police force," Putin added.
When asked if Russia would participate in working groups on the conflict settlement, the head of state noted that, given the level of trust between Russia and Palestine, "Russia's participation could be in demand."
"If our friends consider it necessary, we will, of course, always be ready to take part. We have been involved in this for decades, and I believe Russia has something to say and something to offer in solving the issues that will inevitably arise during the implementation of the reached agreements," the Russian leader concluded.
The new settlement plan was reportedly outlined by Trump during a meeting with leaders of Arab and Muslim countries on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, according to the British newspaper Financial Times. A central security element of the plan is the proposed deployment of a military contingent, composed of personnel from Arab and Muslim states, to stabilize the enclave post-conflict. The US proposal also includes a provision for the simultaneous release of all hostages.
