Russian Foreign Minister's Special Representative for the Middle East Peace Process Vladimir Safronkov discussed on Monday by telephone with the UN Middle East Coordinator Tor Wennesland the prospects for inter-Palestinian unity, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
"An exchange of views on the situation in the Middle East settlement as well as the prospects for achieving inter-Palestinian unity took place," the ministry said.
Safronkov reiterated Russia's unchanged position of principle in support of establishing a direct Palestinian-Israeli political dialogue on the basis of the UN, "including the formula of 'two states' - Israel and Palestine, coexisting in peace and security."
