Russia recognizes the significance of African countries' participation in upcoming BRICS events, stated Oleg Ozerov, Ambassador-at-Large of the Russian Foreign Ministry and Head of the Secretariat of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum, in an interview with TASS.
"Certainly, African countries can be invited to various BRICS events, particularly in light of the inclusion of several African nations like Egypt and Ethiopia into BRICS," Ozerov remarked. He went on to emphasize that Moscow believes "the involvement of African states in specific BRICS events holds significance."
"Another question pertains to the practical implementation," - the diplomat added. - "This will become evident during the preparations for the upcoming summit."
Ozerov also noted that several African countries were invited to the recent BRICS summit in Johannesburg, held in late August, in an outreach format. He expressed confidence that the process of expanding BRICS "will not come to a halt" at this stage, as there are "other countries interested" in becoming members of the organization.
